Beautiful Disaster

Sometimes motivation comes from a picture. Sometimes it comes from a quote. And sometimes motivation comes from a story. This weekend, I heard a story about a mother that touched my heart. This story is devastating and uplifting, all at the same time. This story puts things into perspective.

..Stephanie Nielson and her husband were flying across Arizona on August 16, 2008 when their plane crashed. Exploded upon impact. Stephanie sat in the backseat of the plane, surrounded by flames. She was about to die.
.
She tells her story on 20/20 and again on Oprah. She reenacts how it felt. What she saw. And how she and her husband miraculously survived! She had severe burns on 80% of her body and will probably spend the rest of her life getting surgeries. She tells the story of her recovering from this accident and a 3 month coma. She tells the story of her family and of her children; how they didn’t recognize her and even rejected her at first (heartbreaking) because she didn't look like their mommy.
..
The uplifting part? Her faith. Her outlook. Her amazing ability to get back into life, make pancakes for her kids, take them to school, write in her blog. She writes about being a mother.  It’s a story that made me immediately count my blessings. Again. And again. And again.
