I have this fixation with watching someone grow. Observing a human develop, adapt, change, etc. I think we all have this fixation somewhere inside of us. Parents get to watch their children grow. From the very first moment that ultra sound picture hangs on the fridge, they embark on a journey of watching that two-inch little peanut become a real person. A person with a personality and quirks all their own. There’s a sentiment that attaches itself to friends who have been joined at the hip since they were wee ones or married couples who were high school sweethearts. We all want something like that. It’s in movies and books because those relationships are admired while being few and far between. It can be hard to stick by someone through all of their phases, life adjustments, ups and downs, etc. Because we all change, and yet stay the same, right? But there is something to be said for knowing someone inside and out, for finishing their sentences or knowing their body language to a tee. It’s an accomplishment to love someone through their bests and worsts and when things don’t happen like you expect them to. There is something incredible about knowing all the phases someone has gone through or being a part of all the big moments in their life. I hope everyone gets to experience a relationship like that in their lifetime.
